1. Textual keeps timing out. Is it broken?

No. If you keep receiving disconnects due to a timeout in Textual, then chances are good that there is an intermediate connection issue between you and the IRC network being connected to.

Often time, during timeouts, the service provider that you purchase Internet access from is having a small hiccup in their service making an uninterrupted connection impossible. It is possible this is also happening to the IRC network and unrelated to your own connection.

The recommended solution to timeouts is to try connecting to a specific server on the IRC network experiencing the issue. For example, instead of connecting to the round-robin for Freenode at chat.freenode.net, try the server verne.freenode.net located in Newark, NJ. Most IRC networks will have a list of their servers on their website. Connect to a server that is geographically close to yourself.

If none of these solutions work and you still experience timeouts, then try calling up your internet service provider and asking if they are experiencing any network issues.

2. Why do you not support DCC?

This stance has been taken because we believe there are much better services available to handle file transfers. The move to not support DCC file transfers is an effort to phase it out of the IRC community in favor of these faster, more secure alternatives.
