- when a subscription is canceled automatically by Stripe (e.g. due to
multiple failed payments), we now send a staff notification
- logic before: if a member cancels a sub in Portal, then send a staff
notification
- logic now: if a subscription was active, but is now set to cancel
immediately or at the end of the billing period, then send a staff
notification.
- with that logic change, we now send a cancellation staff notification
when:
1. A member cancels their sub in Portal (existing)
2. A staff member cancels a member sub in Stripe (new)
3. A staff member cancels a member sub in Admin (new)
4. A sub is canceled automatically by Stripe because of multiple failed
payments (new)
- the copy of the staff notification email has also been updated to take
into account 1) manual vs automatic cancellations, and 2) immediate vs
end of billing period cancellations

- Changed staff deletion logic to do a bulk insert when adding a tag to
the users' associated posts
Staff deletion logic has really poor performance at scale because we do
individual updates for every post. If a user has dozens+ posts
(especially in a large db with thousands of posts), this can take >60s
and look like a timeout. Ultimately this should probably be a jobbed off
process, but for the time being we can improve this by doing a bulk
insert.
Note that this update uses the pattern for the bulk tagging of posts
from the right click (bulk) actions in the posts lists in Admin. With
bulk actions, **we do not trigger web hooks or the post.edited events**.
We will document this and follow up on this separately.

fixes DMA-27
- You can choose any support and newsletter email address in the UI
without verification (as long as your SMTP-server / Mailgun can send
from it)
- All emails will use the mail.from config as the from address as a
default:
- Staff notification emails no longer use the made up ghost@domain email
address
- Newsletters no longer default to 'noreply@domain'
- Member related emails (signin/signup/comment notifications...) will
continue to be send from the chosen support address (Portal settings →
Account page), but will now default to the mail.from config instead of
noreply@domain if no support address is set.

When the config `hostSettings:managedEmail:enabled` is enabled, or the
new flag (`newEmailAddresses`) is enabled for self-hosters, we'll start
to check the from addresses of all outgoing emails more strictly.
- Current flow: nothing changes if the managedEmail config is not set or
the `newEmailAddresses` feature flag is not set
- When managedEmail is enabled: never allow to send an email from any
chosen email. We always use `mail.from` for all outgoing emails. Custom
addresses should be set as replyTo instead. Changing the newsletter
sender_email is not allowed anymore (and ignored if it is set).
- When managedEmail is enabled with a custom sending domain: if a from
address doesn't match the sending domain, we'll default to mail.from and
use the original as a replyTo if appropriate and only when no other
replyTo was set. A newsletter sender email addresss can only be set to
an email address on this domain.
- When `newEmailAddresses` is enabled: self hosters are free to set all
email addresses to whatever they want, without verification. In addition
to that, we stop making up our own email addresses and send from
`mail.from` by default instead of generating a `noreply`+ `@` +
`sitedomain.com` address
A more in depth example of all cases can be seen in
`ghost/core/test/integration/services/email-addresses.test.js`
Includes lots of new E2E tests for most new situations. Apart from that,
all email snapshots are changed because the from and replyTo addresses
are now included in snapshots (so we can see unexpected changes in the
future).

- Added `TryGhost/Source` as a submodule in `ghost/core/content/themes` so `Source` will ship with Ghost (along with Casper)
- With this change, new installs will use `Source` as the default theme. Existing sites will have `Source` installed, but not activated, as this is a large change and we don't want to drastically change existing sites without warning. Users can upgrade to use `Source` simply by clicking 'Activate' in design settings.

- The tests for content gating started to fail with introduction of the index on `published_at` data in for `posts` table. The reason for the failure was identical `published_at` date set during the fixture insertion, making the returned results change order non-deterministically. The problem is mostly in how the test is set up as it's quite unrealistic to have multiple posts in the system inserted at the same time down to millisecond. Maybe... by some coincidence, but thats not a problem we should care too much about imo.

We're rolling out new rules around the node assert library, the first of which is enforcing the use of assert/strict. This means we don't need to use the strict version of methods, as the standard version will work that way by default.
This caught some gotchas in our existing usage of assert where the lack of strict mode had unexpected results:
- Url matching needs to be done on `url.href` see aa58b354a4
- Null and undefined are not the same thing, there were a few cases of this being confused
- Particularly questionable changes in [PostExporter tests](c1a468744b) tracked [here](https://github.com/TryGhost/Team/issues/3505).
- A typo see eaac9c293a
Moving forward, using assert strict should help us to catch unexpected behaviour, particularly around nulls and undefineds during implementation.
This prepares us to return a DTO rather than BookshelfModel to the serialiser
layer. When passing a BookshelfModel, the serialisation layer uses the model to
read from when building computed properties. By stripping values out in the
toJSON method it means that the DTO will be missing them and the computed
properties won't be able to be calculated. Instead we return ALL values to the
serialisation layer, and then strip out the ones that weren't requested in the
"clean" step.
This also inadvertently fixes the issue with `reading_time` requiring the
`html` field to be requested, we can now request just `reading_time`, as well
as have it included by default.

We were waiting for the welcome email to send before responding to the
client that setup is complete, this was causing the client to hang when
running `ghost install local` as mail isn't configured by default.
As discussed with the product team we want to enforce kebab-case file names for
all files, with the exception of files which export a single class, in which
case they should be PascalCase and reflect the class which they export.
This will help find classes faster, and should push better naming for them too.
Some files and packages have been excluded from this linting, specifically when
a library or framework depends on the naming of a file for the functionality
e.g. Ember, knex-migrator, adapter-manager

Because our filtering layer is so coupled to the DB and we don't generally
apply restrictions, it was possible to fetch authors and filter by their
password or email field. Coupled with the "starts with" operator this can be
used to brute force the first character of these fields by trying random
combinations until an author is included in the filter. After which the next
character can be brute forced, and so on until the data has been leaked
completely.

The old email flow is no longer used since we introduced the email stability flow. This commit removes the related code and tests. The general test coverage decreased a bit as a result, because the old email flow probably had a high test coverage. The new flow is in separate packages, so it couldn't contribute to a higher test coverage (but it does have 100% unit test coverage).

no issue
There are a couple of issues with resetting the Ghost instance between
E2E test files:
These issues came to the surface because of new tests written in
https://github.com/TryGhost/Ghost/pull/16117
**1. configUtils.restore does not work correctly**
`config.reset()` is a callback based method. On top of that, it doesn't
really work reliably (https://github.com/indexzero/nconf/issues/93)
What kinda happens, is that you first call `config.reset` but
immediately after you correcty reset the config using the `config.set`
calls afterwards. But since `config.reset` is async, that reset will
happen after all those sets, and the end result is that it isn't reset
correctly.
This mainly caused issues in the new updated images tests, which were
updating the config `imageOptimization.contentImageSizes`, which is a
deeply nested config value. Maybe some references to objects are reused
in nconf that cause this issue?
Wrapping `config.reset()` in a promise does fix the issue.
**2. Adapters cache not reset between tests**
At the start of each test, we set `paths:contentPath` to a nice new
temporary directory. But if a previous test already requests a
localStorage adapter, that adapter would have been created and in the
constructor `paths:contentPath` would have been passed. That same
instance will be reused in the next test run. So it won't read the new
config again. To fix this, we need to reset the adapter instances
between E2E tests.
How was this visible? Test uploads were stored in the actual git
repository, and not in a temporary directory. When writing the new image
upload tests, this also resulted in unreliable test runs because some
image names were already taken (from previous test runs).
**3. Old 2E2 test Ghost server not stopped**
Sometimes we still need access to the frontend test server using
`getAgentsWithFrontend`. But that does start a new Ghost server which is
actually listening for HTTP traffic. This could result in a fatal error
in tests because the port is already in use. The issue is that old E2E
tests also start a HTTP server, but they don't stop the server. When you
used the old `startGhost` util, it would check if a server was already
running and stop it first. The new `getAgentsWithFrontend` now also has
the same functionality to fix that issue.
refs https://github.com/TryGhost/Team/issues/2400
- we've deemed it useful to start to return `Content-Version` for all
API requests, because it becomes useful to know which version of Ghost
a response has come from in logs
- this should also help us detect Admin<->Ghost API mismatches, which
was the cause of a bug recently (ref'd issue)
refs https://github.com/TryGhost/Toolbox/issues/499
- Outgoing emails have been a weak point of Ghost's stability recently. The concept of "emailMockReceiver" similarly to "webhookMockReceiver", allows to test side-effects like outgoing emails.
- This is a first iteration which should lay groundwork for testing all outgoing emails in the future
- The change adds a new concept of "email mock receiver" which is very similar to how the "webhook mock receiver" works. The email mock receiver exposes two methods to record and verify snapshots:
- matchHTMLSnapshot - records and verifies only the HTML content of the outgoint email
- matchMetadataSnapshot - records and verifies all the non-HTML properties sent along an email content, e.g.: to address, plaintext, subject, etc.
- What's missing is matching content based on dynamic content like dates, links with JWT tokens, etc.
no issue
With the increased usage of DomainEvents, it gets harder to build
reliable tests without having to resort to timeouts. This utility method
allows us to wait for all events to be processed before continuing with
the test.
This change should speed up tests and make them more reliable.
It only adds extra code when running tests and shouldn't impact
production.

Probem described in issue.
In the old MEGA flow:
- The `email_verification_required` check is now repeated inside the job
In the new email service flow:
- The `email_verification_required` is now checked (didn't happen
before)
- When generating the email batch recipients, we only include members
that were created before the email was created. That way it is
impossible to avoid limit checks by inserting new members between
creating an email and sending an email.
- We don't need to repeat the check inside the job because of the above
changes
Improved handling of large imports:
- When checking `email_verification_required`, we now also check if the
import threshold is reached (a new method is introduced in
vertificationTrigger specifically for this usage). If it is, we start
the verification progress. This is required for long running imports
that only check the verification threshold at the very end.
- This change increases the concurrency of fastq to 3 (refs
https://ghost.slack.com/archives/C02G9E68C/p1670232405014209). So when
running a long import, it is now possible to send emails without having
to wait for the import. Above change makes sure it is not possible to
get around the verification limits.
Refactoring:
- Removed the need to use `updateVerificationTrigger` by making
thresholds getters instead of fixed variables.
- Improved awaiting of members import job in regression test

We found some cases which can cause a site to have member emails that have invalid characters like `member@example.com`. This happened due to the `validator` version used by Ghost not able to catch some specific cases as invalid email, allowing members to be created with them either via Admin or Importer or direct signup. Portal UI already blocked these email as invalid. This change:
- updates `@tryghost/validator` to include a latest version of email validator that catches these invalid cases
- doesn't allow member creation with invalid email like above
- doesn't allow existing member emails to be edited to invalid

- The sleep method has been used in 8 modules reimplementing the same thing over and over again. It's usually a sign of async event processing outside of the request/response loop. It's good to have a single point of implementation for a "hack" like this, so we could track it easier and address the even processing delay in a more optimal way centrally if it ever becomes a bottleneck

Added a new email service package that is used when the email stability
flag is enabled. Currently not yet implemented so will throw an error
for all entry points (if flag enabled).
Removed usage of `labs.isSet.bind` across the code, because that breaks
the stubbing of labs by `mockManager.mockLabsEnabled` and
`mockManager.mockLabsDisabled`. `flag => labs.isSet(flag)` should be
used instead.
All email depending tests now disable the `emailStability` feature flag
to keep the tests passing + make sure we still run all the tests for the
old flow while the email stability package is being built.

- When multiple browser tabs are open, each manipulate a different copy of ember data model, changes to the model in one tab are not reflected in the model of the other tab.
- When updating some settings, all current settings were sent to the API.
- As a result, when updating two different categories of settings (navigation/code inspection) in different tabs, the second update was overriding the first one.
- From a user perspective, this is not a natural behaviour. Only settings visible on-screen when clicking save should be modified.

- The versioned API responses vary based on requested version (passed in request's 'accept-version' header). shared caches that sit between Ghost's origin server and the browser would be putting responses with same Vary into the same caching bucket, which is incorrect.
- This change makes response's Vary more granular and tells caching mechanisms to take 'Accept-Version' request header into account when caching.

- Private cache control was preventing browser or shared caches from storing Content APIs response. The type of data served through the Content API is very much of a "public" nature, so should be cacheable.
- Right now the 'max-age' value of 'cache-control' header is hardcoded to '0', without 'must-revalidate' value, to allow browsers to cache content slightly more aggressively. In the future the 'max-age' value will most-likely become configurable to allow even more aggressive HTTP caching.
refs https://github.com/TryGhost/Toolbox/issues/410
- The 'private' value in 'Cache-Control' response header for all errors made it impossible for shared caches (e.g.: Fastly, Cloudflare) to cache 404 responses efficiently.
- The change substitutes 'max-age=0' which should not effect the browser cache behavior but would allow shared caches to process such requests efficiently.
- A more loose caching logic only applies to 404 responses from GET requests that are not user-specific (non-authenticated, non-cookie containing requests)
- This fixture is the main user fixture you'd want to use when testing staff roles
