We noticed that many users have the intuition of laving the editor empty when
they want to abort the operation. The fact that dropmissing allows user to
delete all edited commits is not intuitive even for users that asked for it.
Let's prevent people from this footgun.
The default behaviour to forbid this makes a lot of sense for novice users
because it's safeguarding them from dangerous behavior but making it
configurable will be apprieciated by power users in at least one big
organization.
It allows an user to look an histedit rules from declarative perspective and
make the rules reflect the state after histedit. If we can move lines t move
commits why can't we drop lines to drop commits?
Let's put this behind config knob and inform users about this feature the very
moment they are trying to use it so they can choose desired behaviour.
Previously histedit only stored the short version of the rule nodes in the
state. This meant that later we couldn't resolve a rule node to its full
form if the commit had been deleted from the repo.
Let's store the full form from the beginning.
Currently, histedit acquires and releases lock and wlock several times during
its run. This isn't great because it allows other hg processes to come in and
change state. With this fix, lock and wlock are acquired and released exactly
once.
The change to test-histedit-drop.t is a minor implementation one -- the cache
is still correctly invalidated, but it just happens a little later and only
gets printed out because of the unrelated --debug flag.
This is simpler than temporary file version. There some minor test
changes since commit messages are no longer modifed. There is still
some tests using --commands with a real file.
Have histedit record the hex of the original changeset as already done by:
- graft
- commit --amend
- rebase
My main motivation for adding this is to prevent the creation of obsolescence cycle
(see issue3681).
Note that commit created during edit are not affected yet.
