# herdr-auto-title Auto-title [herdr](https://github.com/ogulcancelik/herdr) tabs from the first user message of a [Hermes Agent](https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com) session. When running Hermes inside a herdr-managed pane, this plugin sets the tab label to the first ~40 characters of your first message — so tabs are named by what you're working on, not just numbered. ## How it works - On `post_llm_call` (first turn only), takes the first line of `user_message`, truncates to 40 chars, and sends a `tab.rename` request to the herdr Unix socket. - On `on_session_start`, resets state so each new session gets a fresh title. - Uses `HERDR_TAB_ID` and `HERDR_SOCKET_PATH` env vars (set by herdr when launching a pane). ## Install ```bash mkdir -p ~/.hermes/plugins/herdr-auto-title cd ~/.hermes/plugins/herdr-auto-title # Download plugin.yaml and __init__.py from this repo ``` Then enable it in your Hermes config (`~/.hermes/config.yaml`): ```yaml plugins: enabled: - herdr-agent-state - herdr-auto-title ``` **Note:** `plugins.enabled` must be a YAML list, not a comma-separated string. If `hermes config set` writes it as a string, edit `config.yaml` directly. Restart Hermes (`/reset` or relaunch `hermes --tui`) for the plugin to load. ## Requirements - [Hermes Agent](https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com) with plugin support - [herdr](https://github.com/ogulcancelik/herdr) v0.7.1+ - `herdr integration install hermes` must be run first (sets up `HERDR_ENV` etc.) ## License MIT
