herdr-auto-title
Auto-title herdr tabs from the first user message of a Hermes Agent session.
When running Hermes inside a herdr-managed pane, this plugin sets the tab label to the first ~40 characters of your first message — so tabs are named by what you're working on, not just numbered.
How it works
- On
post_llm_call(first turn only), takes the first line ofuser_message, truncates to 40 chars, and sends atab.renamerequest to the herdr Unix socket. - On
on_session_start, resets state so each new session gets a fresh title. - Uses
HERDR_TAB_IDandHERDR_SOCKET_PATHenv vars (set by herdr when launching a pane).
Install
mkdir -p ~/.hermes/plugins/herdr-auto-title
cd ~/.hermes/plugins/herdr-auto-title
# Download plugin.yaml and __init__.py from this repo
Then enable it in your Hermes config (~/.hermes/config.yaml):
plugins:
enabled:
- herdr-agent-state
- herdr-auto-title
Note: plugins.enabled must be a YAML list, not a comma-separated string. If hermes config set writes it as a string, edit config.yaml directly.
Restart Hermes (/reset or relaunch hermes --tui) for the plugin to load.
Requirements
- Hermes Agent with plugin support
- herdr v0.7.1+
herdr integration install hermesmust be run first (sets upHERDR_ENVetc.)
